Galss Facade Protection for a Brisbane High-Rise
Infinity Tower is a landmark high-rise building located in the heart of Brisbane’s CBD in Queensland, Australia. Developed by Karimbla Constructions, a division of Meriton Apartments, the 262-metre tower features 81 levels of commercial and serviced residential apartments.
With a distinctive architectural design and extensive glass façade, protecting the building’s exterior glass during and after construction was an important priority.
EnduroShield was selected to protect 20,800m² of façade glass, helping reduce the risk of staining, etching and damage from construction-related contaminants such as cement slurry, dirt and grime.

The Challenge: Protecting Glass During Construction
Large construction projects can expose glass to harsh and difficult-to-remove contaminants before the building is even complete. Cement slurry, concrete residue, dirt, dust and site debris can bond to untreated glass and create long-term damage.
For Infinity Tower, the key challenges included:
- Protecting 20,800m² of façade glass during construction
- Reducing the risk of staining and etching from cement slurry
- Preventing dirt and grime from bonding strongly to the glass surface
- Reducing the need for abrasive cleaning methods
- Helping avoid costly glass replacement
- Supporting easier long-term cleaning after construction
Having experienced the costly and problematic need for glass replacement on previous job sites, the developer required a reliable glass protection solution for this project.
The Solution: Factory-Applied Protective Glass Coating
EnduroShield was applied to the glass curtain wall system in the factory before installation. This provided protection before the glass arrived on site and helped support consistency across the large façade area.
The factory received training, consultation and the implementation of a quality assurance procedure. Once certified, the factory was authorised to provide the EnduroShield 10 Year Warranty.
Factory-applied glass coating is especially valuable for large-scale high-rise projects because it allows protection to be integrated before construction exposure occurs.
Key functions of the coating include:
- Helping protect glass from construction contaminants
- Reducing the risk of cement slurry staining and etching
- Making dirt, grime and debris easier to remove
- Supporting safer, less abrasive cleaning methods
- Helping preserve glass clarity and appearance
- Supporting long-term easy-clean maintenance after construction
Real-World Performance During Construction
The value of EnduroShield became clear during the construction process.
Twenty storeys up, a concrete spill went over a large section of the façade. It was two days before the cleaning contractor could access the area, but the treated glass was still cleaned successfully.
The concrete was easier to remove, and importantly, it had not etched the glass. This helped eliminate the need for costly replacement and demonstrated the practical value of protecting glass before construction exposure.
Project Feedback
We used EnduroShield Professional coating on the Infinity Tower in Brisbane as our client wanted protection during the building process and long term easy clean benefits after construction. The coating came into its own 20 stories up when there was a concrete spill which went over a large part of the façade. It was 2 days before the cleaning contractor could get to it and they commented on how easy the concrete was to remove. Best of all, it hadn’t etched the glass, eliminating the need for any costly replacement.

Results and Long-Term Benefits
After construction was completed, the EnduroShield-treated glass was easier to clean, helping reduce the risk of scratching that can occur when contractors attempt to remove stubborn residue from untreated glass using razor blades or abrasive cleaners.
For a high-rise façade, this benefit is significant. Easier cleaning reduces the likelihood of surface damage while helping preserve the building’s exterior appearance.
Key Benefits
- Protected 20,800m² of façade glass
- Helped prevent etching from a concrete spill during construction
- Reduced the risk of costly glass replacement
- Made construction residue easier to remove
- Helped reduce reliance on razor blades and abrasive cleaners
- Supported long-term easy-clean façade maintenance
- Delivered factory-applied quality control and warranty support
Why Construction Projects Choose EnduroShield
During construction, glass is exposed to materials and contaminants that can cause permanent surface damage. Once glass becomes etched or scratched, replacement can be expensive, time-consuming and disruptive.
EnduroShield helps protect glass from staining and etching while making the surface easier to clean during and after construction.
Suitable applications include:
High-rise glass façades
- Glass curtain wall systems
- Commercial towers
- Residential apartment developments
- Hotels and mixed-use buildings
- Factory-applied glass coating programs
- Exterior architectural glass
- Large-scale construction projects
Relevance for Builders, Developers and Façade Teams
For builders, developers and façade contractors, protecting glass early can help reduce risk during construction.
Factory-applied EnduroShield allows the coating to be applied under controlled conditions before installation. This supports consistency, quality assurance and long-term performance across large glass areas.
For projects such as Infinity Tower, where glass is a major architectural feature, early protection can help reduce maintenance issues and avoid unnecessary replacement costs.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you protect glass during construction?
Glass can be protected during construction by applying a protective glass coating before installation or before heavy site exposure. This helps reduce the risk of staining, etching and damage from contaminants such as cement slurry, dirt and grime.
Can concrete or cement slurry damage glass?
Yes. Concrete, cement slurry and construction residue can stain or etch untreated glass if left on the surface. Removing these contaminants may also require aggressive cleaning methods that can scratch the glass.
What is factory-applied glass coating?
Factory-applied glass coating is a protective treatment applied to glass before it reaches the construction site. This supports consistent application, quality control and protection before installation.
Does EnduroShield help reduce glass replacement risk?
Yes. By helping protect glass from staining and etching and making contaminants easier to remove, EnduroShield can help reduce the risk of costly glass replacement on construction projects.
