The Window of Champions – Columbia
The making of an icon – Where football meets amazing architecture.
15,070 sq ft (1,400 sqm) of reflective glass façade has been protected with EnduroShield in Barranquilla, Colombia.
“It is a gift for Barranquilla, because we in Barranquilla live and die for El Junior.”
Christian Daes, COO of Tecnoglass Group
The Window of Champions; a shark fin monument to honour the city’s football team, El Junior (Junior de Barranquilla) has become a reference for the city and its urban evolution. This striking piece of architecture has become a place to celebrate the intersection between industry and the pulse of the city. The project works as a fundamental starting point for the development of this area, “It fills us with satisfaction to see how the city has more emblematic places that have become perfect and magical spaces to share with the family. We are proud to be part of this change”, said Christian Daes, COO of Tecnoglass Group.
The reflective glass used for this monument allows the structure to be perceived in different ways at different times of the day. “It frames the environment, the city, the river, the clouds”, says Castellano. At this point, the collaboration with Tecnoglass was vital since the specifications of the material were very precise, opting for 15,070 sq ft (1400 sqm) of a 10mm thick laminated reference with a Low-E R36/23 reflective layer. The application of EnduroShield transforms low-e hard coated surfaces into a highly durable, easy to clean substrate which helps reduce cleaning frequency.
Low-E glass offers efficient energy saving benefits to any architectural project by minimizing the amount of ultraviolet and infrared light that passes through glass without diminishing the amount of visible light. The application of EnduroShield transforms low-e hard coated surfaces into a highly durable, easy to clean substrate which helps reduce cleaning frequency.
Tecnoglass is one of the largest glass fabricators in South America and in keeping with the company’s policies of care and protection of the environment, PCT Global donated 50% towards the material required for the EnduroShield application, ensuring that the reflective glass used for the structure would provide optimal performance for less maintenance. “We were humbled to have been specified for such a valuable gift to the city of Barranquilla by our long-standing partner,” said Adrian Ray, Director, PCT Global LLC.
Tecnoglass also continually aims to collaborate with the management of social development projects and programs, where the central axis is to contribute to the development of the communities in its area of influence. EnduroShield is proud to have been involved with one such project, especially one of such unique design and significance.
